PLAYHOUSE SHOW - 'Phone A Friend'

Last Wednesday our school got to watch an entertaining performance from NZ Playhouse. The show focused on a school boy who was being bullied by the kids in the Gadget Gang because his mobile phone wasn't cool. As it happens, his phone although rather big and heavy to carry around, turned out to be a really kind friend who helped him overcome the bullying problem. There were lots of laughs as we watched the show and we even got to learn a funky phone dance! It was a fabulous performance and it tied in really well with our value of the term - compassion.

IMOGEN'S TREAT!

At the end of last term, Model 2B got a wonderful surprise at Assembly when Imogen's name was called out to win her whole class an ice cream! This is because Imogen's name was nominated for the flame for showing respect. Here is Imogen being first up to get her ice cream from Miss Hill. Well done Imogen on having such respectful manners at GSNS.

SPELLER OF THE WEEK

Congratulations to Nova who is our latest speller of the week. Well done Nova on getting all your spelling words correct.

WELCOME TO CHARLIE

We would like to welcome Charlie into Model 2B. Charlie is a great reader and we are enjoying having him as part of our class. Happy school days Charlie!

CONGRATULATIONS FARIS

Well done to Faris who has finished his 20 week Reading Recovery programme today. Faris has tried so hard and he has become an amazing reader and a super writer. Keep up the great work Faris!

EXCITING DELIVERY

After looking at all the items we had brainstormed to sell, Miss Barnett has been busy emailing lots of companies to find out if they can help us with our 'Compassion Project'. Today a big parcel arrived from Purex. It was very exciting! We now have heaps of cute Rolly dogs for our raffle.

GOODIES FROM DOG RESCUE

Keryn from Dog Rescue has given us some brochures about what they do, some posters for our wall and a collection container.

DOG ART

Miss Barnett showed us this really cool picture that she found. We are making our own funky dog art like this to sell on 'Inquiry Night' on Thursday 24 May to raise more money for Dog Rescue. Keep a look out on the blog. We will add photos when our artwork is finished.

LETTER TO DOG RESCUE

We worked together to write a letter to Dog Rescue. We wanted to tell them about our 'Compassion Project' and see if they would help us answer all the questions we have. Naomi and Leah did a fabulous job decorating our letter with lots of cute dogs!

QUESTION TIME

We all thought about a question that we would like to ask Dog Rescue. We have made a 'Wonder Wall' on the office door with all of our great questions.

WHAT CAN WE MAKE AND SELL?

We brainstormed a list of all the things we could make or sell to raise funds for Dog Rescue. Here are our ideas: * Jewellery * Fluffy toy dogs * Rope dogs * Toy dog bones * Cards * Bookmarks * Dog chocolates * Dog cookies * Dog drawing * Dog food * Baskets * Raffle * Dog beds * Dog clothing * Dog house

DOG RESCUE

We have been looking at the Dunedin Dog Rescue website. We found out that the compassionate people at Dog Rescue help sad dogs by training them, looking after them and finding them new homes. We think that the Dog Rescue is very kind. We are going to raise money for them and help them to save more dogs. Here is a link to their website. http://www.dogrescuedunedin.co.nz/

OUR COMPASSION PROJECT

We have started our 'Compassion Project' for the term. We are thinking about how we can help dogs in need. We looked at photos of lots of happy dogs and lots of sad ones too. We found out that happy dogs have: * Food * Water * Love * Company/a family * Shelter But sadly we found out that lots of dogs do not get all of the things they need to make them happy.

COMPASSION

The character value we are learning about this term is compassion. Here are some of our ideas about what compassion is: * being nice and looking after people * helping people that need it * helping nature and animals * being a friend to other people * being kind * showing people you care
